Coach Pirkle has been involved in education and coaching for the past twelve years. In the fall of 2008, he returned to coach again in Cobb County after a four year absence. During the Bucccaneers' first two seasons, Coach Pirkle and staff guided Allatoona to records of 16-15 and 23-5. Although they failed to make the state playoffs, a solid foundation has been established and the Buccaneers are on the brink of post-season success. The 2010 season should be exciting as the program welcomes its first senior class. In the program's brief two-year history, two players were named All-State Honorable Mention, one player was named 1st Team All-County, one player was named 2nd Team All-County, six players were named All-County Honorable Mention, and four players were named 1st Team All-Region. In addition to his coaching duties, Coach Pirkle served as the 7AAAA Region Tournament Director in 2008 and 2009.
In his previous tenure as a head coach, Coach Pirkle served as the Head Softball Coach at Grayson High School (Gwinnett Co.) from 2004-2008. While at the helm, his teams compiled a combined record of 94-57-2. The Lady Rams captured the 8AAAAA Region Championship in 2006 and again in 2007. The Lady Rams were Region Runner-up in 2005. Grayson advanced to the State Sectionals all four seasons and made it to the Elite 8 in 2007. Coach Pirkle is very fortunate to have twelve of his former players move on to compete at the collegiate level, including four players in Division I. In addition to playing at the next level, nine players earned All-State selections, 13 earned All-County selections, and one was selected to play in the GACA North/South All-Star game. Coach Pirkle was awarded 8AAAAA Coach of the Year honors in 2006 and again in 2007. He also served as the Gwinnett County Diamond Club President during the 2005 season.
Coach Pirkle’s career began as an assistant coach for three different sports at Harrison High School. During his six years at Harrison, he was an assistant coach for softball (four seasons), boy’s basketball (six seasons), and baseball (one season). As an assistant for the softball program, he was a part of the 2000 AAAAA State Championship and 2001 AAAAA 3rd place finish. The Lady Hoyas also won three Area 5AAAAA Championships during his tenure as an assistant coach.
As an undergraduate at the University of Georgia, Coach Pirkle earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History, while also gaining his Social Studies teaching certification. As a graduate student, he obtained his Masters and Specialist Degrees in Administration and Leadership at the State University of West Georgia. He also holds Gifted certification, which he obtained from North Georgia College and State University.
